What is it like working for TJX Europe?
TJX Europe is the sort of place where no two days are the same. The fast paced environment keeps you on your toes and makes sure you don’t get complacent. Relationships are what keeps the workplace moving. I’ve never encountered a friendlier, more inviting place than the culture and it shows in the results that everyone achieves. It’s fast, it’s fun, it’s fulfilling.
Tell me about your career progression/on-going development with TJX Europe.
TJX Europe places a large emphasis on talent development and allows you to be the champion of your own fate. If you’ve got the drive and self-ambition, there’s no place you cannot reach. Currently, my development is all about learning. I’m being shown every different corner of the function to really get a rounded knowledge of how it all fits together. This freedom to learn provides me an opportunity that most people don’t get in order to forge a well-rounded career progression path through the business.
How much responsibility are you given?
Responsibility depends on the role at the time. Rotating through different areas of the function allows me to touch on a whole variety of projects and deliver results based on real ownership of my work. We’ve already seen an impact of some of the projects we’ve worked on and look forward to shaping the function further in future.
What is a typical working day like?
In all honesty, there isn’t really a typical day! The nature of the business requires you to be flexible and to adapt to what’s in front of you. Lots of learning and soaking up information is what most days consist of, to then be able to progress further into roles down the line. Time is typically split between working on projects and learning the general workings of the different departments and the roles they contain. In the coming months, this will develop more into performing the roles individually. Also I must mention how much time is spent networking and forming relationships, an “emotional bank account”. In this business, working well with others to get the best out of both them and yourself is crucial.
