What is it like working for TJX Europe?
It’s never boring. And everyone is nice. It sounds very simple, but it makes all the difference. The fast pace of the business offers a lot of variety and there is always a new challenge around the corner. Teamwork is key and everyone is happy to help and answer all your questions. This doesn’t only apply to your immediate team – there is always a friendly face in the coffee queue who is keen to talk to you.
Tell me about your career progression/on-going development with TJX Europe.
I started on the Merch & Buying grad scheme in 2014. Since then I discovered so many things: I moved from Germany to the UK, worked as an Analyst and AM in our Kids & Toys department and then moved to Store Merchandising.
As a country merchandiser I looked after Poland, Ireland and Germany, supported the first trading years of our new countries Austria & Netherlands and kept growing and learning with the role.
I really enjoy exploring different areas within our business and want to continue doing so. Maybe Buying next? There is so much more to discover!
How much responsibility are you given?
Everyone trusts you from your first day. If you feel comfortable, you can own your business from the very beginning.
In collaboration with my business partners I get to make decisions every day and can really make an impact, which is important to me. Everyone feels very responsible for their area which makes it such a great place to be.
It’s also okay to make mistakes. I made plenty so far and learned loads from them. We all get excited about a little “sweaty palms” situation.
What is a typical working day like?
It’s hard to describe as my days never quite look the same. I might be in meetings with my business partners to discuss country strategies, be in a development course or delivering training. My favorite days are when I’m out in stores, traveling to one of our countries across Europe. Seeing the results in real life is very rewarding.
