What is it like working for TJX Europe?

When I talk about working for TJX Europe to my friends and family, I don’t think they believe that I work for such an exciting, fast paced, friendly, supportive, interesting, evolving and fun company. It isn’t abnormal in our business to have been around for five years plus and to me, this speaks volumes. The reason people stay around for that amount of time is because every day feels like a new challenge and because of our culture, you genuinely enjoy everyday at work.

Tell me about your career progression/on-going development with TJX Europe.

I started on the Merchandising & Buying Graduate scheme in 2009 and was promoted to various positions within Merchandising for 4 years with my longest period spent on Home as a Merchandiser. I then moved function in to Buying as a Men’s Footwear Buyer where I remained for 3 years and was promoted to a position where I had responsibility to train new Buyers. Since January I have returned back to Merchandising and am now a Merchandise Director of Active and Men’s Accessories for the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands.

How much responsibility are you given?

It really surprised me when I joined TJX Europe how much responsibility you are given from such an early stage in your career. From Analyst level onwards you are given opportunity to influence and affect the business and I think this is one of the biggest things that keeps people for so long at TJX Europe and makes the job so exciting. In my new position as a Merchandise Director, I recognise how important it is for my team to be making key decisions and having that responsibility.

What is a typical day like?

We never have typical days in TJX Europe and it differs across Buying and Merchandising, depending on what level you are and what department you might be in! The biggest thing that I can say is “typical” of TJX Europe, is that relationships and communication are SO important to doing your job and will impact everything that you do.
