Retail Apprenticeship

What is a Retail Apprenticeship?

This nationally recognised retail qualification, is designed by retailers for retailers. It allows you to combine work and study by mixing on the job training with one to one learning sessions. Once completed, it represents a complete 360° understanding of retail, across all sectors of retail.

What Will I Learn?

You will cover an array of retail specific areas. The depth and breadth of each subject, being dependent upon the level of the apprenticeship you’re undertaking.

Customer – Get to know your customer. Identify their profile and how best to communicate with them. Learn how they like to shop and how to increase sales.

Business – The vision, objectives and brand of a retail business.

Financial – Understanding the principles of operating as a commercial retailer and how the retail team’s action contribute to financial performance.

Marketing – Increasing market share. Competitors. Promotions. Advertising and consumer trends.

Merchandising, Sales & Promotion – Understand the promotional calendar. How to increase sales through product placement. Customer buying habits. Methods of merchandising.

Team – How to support and influence a team positively. How to identify and develop team performance.

Performance – Understanding personal performance and its contribution to the business.

Brand Reputation – Know and understand the importance of brand.

Stock – How to manage stock levels and understand the principles of stock control.

Technical – Understanding and operating retail technology. Discover emerging technologies

Legal & Governance – Know and recognise legislative responsibilities/compliance.

Diversity – Working with people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. Recognising how local demographics impact on the business.

Environment – Taking responsible decisions to minimise negative effects on the environment.

What Will I Gain With This Apprenticeship?

You will be supported in furthering your progression and career within TJX. Continue the development of your existing skills whilst introducing new skills/knowledge and receive a national qualification recognised by all retailers.

This apprenticeship is tailored to your learning needs, and qualification level suited to your job role. You will get on the job training to introduce new skills and help to develop existing ones. Your trainer will be an expert in their sector, having worked in retail for a number of years.

You’ll have access to e-learning – at any time. Being an apprentice qualifies you for an NUS card with access to many discounts and benefits in stores, restaurants and leisure facilities.

What Will Be Expected Of Me?

You’ll be motivated, professional and enthusiastic for the full duration of the programme. Commit to 2 hours in work learning every 4 weeks. Participate in on the job observations with the Trainer Undertake out of hours projects and learning
Participate in bi-monthly professional discussions between you, your trainer and Mentor.
