What is it like working for TJX Europe?
Working for TJX Europe means having a lot of opportunities in a company that really cares about the people. Every day is different and you drive your own development and career at your own pace. The company gives you the chance to face new and exciting challenges every day in a variety of roles, with all the support you need along the way. It is like working as part of a big family where everyone is happy to help and you feel like you are making a difference in the company from the very beginning!
Tell me about your career progression/on-going development with TJX Europe.
I joined the Merchandising & Buying graduate programme in February 2016 as an Allocation Analyst in Womenswear. In October 2016 I got my first promotion and moved to the Ecommerce team as a Senior Analyst, first in Accessories and then in Menswear. In July 2017 I got promoted to Assistant Merchandiser and moved to the Ecommerce Home department. In June 2018 I got promoted to Associate Buyer and joined the Womenswear Buying team in the Italian Buying Office.
How much responsibility are you given?
You are responsible for your business from the first day after training. Your line manager will assess your experience level and development needs and gradually increase your responsibility based on that. You can have a huge impact, as an analyst you are the one responsible for the allocation of the goods in the stores and online, always with the support of your team. Again, you are the one driving it. For example after a couple of months working in my department I felt like I needed a new challenge so I asked my line manager to be given another additional department to own.
What is a typical working day like?
No day is the same at TJX and flexibility is the key. Every day you arrive at work and something new might come up. One day you could be preparing a strategy for a specific Brand, the day after analysing a cluster of stores to maximise their sales, another day you could be flying to Germany to look at your mix in store and the day after shadow a buyer on a vendor visit. This is what makes the job super exciting, you never know what might be coming next!
